Canadian History Choices for Homeschoolers

Here is what I have lined up for Canadian History for this year. I'm concentrating on the explorers and the natives:
  • Courage and Conquest (with Canada: A People's History VHS Videos from the NB public library, French available in DVD format)
  • Canada's Natives Long Ago (Donna Ward...got this second hand) Reproducible
  • Canada Our Home by Vince Marquis ( Donna Ward...got this second hand) this book ties in with The Kids Book of Canada (NB public library). It offers questions and activities. Reproducible .
  • The Kids Book of Canadian Exploration (there's a whole series of The Kids Book of-----. Really good series, easy reading, for all ages, all at the NB public library)
  • The Kids Book of Canada
  • The Kids Book of Canadian Railroads
  • Canada Close Up Series(Canada's Prairie Animals, Arctic Animals,Mountain Animals, Coastal Animals,Woodland animals, wetland animals....all available at the NB public library. Easy reading (kids can even read this themselves).

I'm tying in Canadian Geography as well:
  • Let's Explore Canada Grades 3-4 by Trudy Mauti and Deborah Sherman (Apple Press) (younger kids can do this, no problem)...this is a book of maps and worksheets on each province's resources, etc. Reproducible.
  • Our Home and Native Land / Canada Geography by Sonja E. Schild (Smart Toys Publisher) Reproducible worksheets on maps, cities, etc.
  • Geography Province to Province...a province by province worksheet and lesson book on geography, resources, politics, etc. More suitable for older kids but can tie in younger ones as well. Reproducible.

I got a few books that relate to specific topics here and there at yard sales and Frenchy's. I even got a 75.00$ picture book of Canada for 2.00$!!!

Besides this, we are doing A Beka Language Arts, Math U see, Konos for Science (hands on fun!), French vocabulary words, Draw, Write, Now for Art (drawing Indians and North American Animals)....and whatever else we find to do :)

Canadians Ordering Books Out of Country

This just in:

"Perhaps this is information that other homeschoolers will want to know.

I just contacted Canada Customs Agency and they informed me that if books for education are ordered outside of Canada, ask the publisher to specify that the contents of the shipment are books for children's education. They will therefore not charge and custom fees and they will give you a reduced tax rate.

Tks.

Diane"

Thank you, Diane! Great to know. :)
